Held each year around Easter (March/April), the Sydney Royal Easter Show celebrates Australia’s cultural and rural traditions for two action-packed weeks of carnival rides, exhibitions and entertainment. Known locally as “the Show”, it was first held in 1823 to bring the country to the city, and continues to be a fantastic family day out.

Meet the animals
Ever wanted to milk a cow, hold a duckling or feed a lamb? For many, animals are the real stars of the Show. Follow the Animal Walk to see more than 14,000 animals – some of which are uniquely Australian – compete for a prized Sydney Royal ribbon. The animal pavilions feature demonstrations and shows every day, and the Farmyard Nursery offers a unique opportunity to get up close to more than 800 Australian farm animals. Get your hands dirty with a $1 cup of animal feed. The Purina Sydney Royal Dog Show sees thousands of dogs go paw-to-paw for the prestigious Best In Show title, and each afternoon you can see puppies flaunt their way around the ring.

The Sydney Royal Easter Show is home to Australia’s largest fairgrounds, including the Coca-Cola Carnival and Kids Carnival. Thrill-seekers can get their adrenaline racing on rides such as the Mega Drop, where you’ll experience a terrifying 45 metre (148 feet) free-fall, or Mayhem Manor, where zombies run rampant. There are also plenty of family-friendly rides for the young and young-at-heart, including the Super Slide and Sea Circus.
